Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 2, 2026
Last Updated: August 2, 2026
1. Introduction
MI Division ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Walkie Talkie Offline Radio mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
The App operates entirely offline. We do not operate any servers, we do not have user accounts, and no information you provide or transmit through the App is ever sent to us or stored by us.
2. Information Stored On Your Device
The App stores a small amount of information locally on your device using Android's private application storage. This information never leaves your device except as described in Section 3, and is not accessible to us or to any third party.
- Nickname — the display name you choose so other participants can identify you in a room.
- Device identifier — a random identifier generated by the App on first launch. It is not your advertising ID, hardware serial, IMEI, or any identifier assigned by your device or carrier. It exists only to distinguish participants within a room.
- Room code and group name — the most recent room code and group name you used, so you can rejoin quickly.
- App preferences — such as your configured group size and whether permissions have already been requested.
- Voice recordings — audio you record is written to your device's temporary cache directory in order to be transmitted. See Section 7 for retention and deletion.
3. Information Shared With Nearby Devices
The App is a peer-to-peer communication tool. When you join a room and send a message, the following is transmitted directly from your device to the other devices in that room over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, or a local Wi-Fi connection. It is not routed through the internet and is not transmitted to us:
- Your chosen nickname and your randomly generated device identifier
- Voice messages you record and send
- Text messages you send
- Presence and connection status signals used to maintain the mesh network
This transmission occurs only at your direction, only while you are in a room, and only to devices within physical radio range that have joined the same room.
4. Permissions We Request
a. Location Permission
Android requires apps to hold location permission in order to scan for and connect to nearby Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct devices. The App requests this permission solely for that purpose. The App does not determine, collect, record, transmit, or store your geographic location. It contains no mapping, navigation, or location-tracking functionality of any kind, and it never queries your device's GPS or location services.
b. Microphone Permission
Used exclusively to record voice messages when you actively press the record control. The App does not record audio in the background, does not listen passively, and does not activate the microphone at any other time.
c. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Nearby Devices Permissions
Used to discover nearby devices running the App and to establish the direct device-to-device connections that carry your messages.
d. Notifications and Foreground Service
Used to display an ongoing notification while a room is active, so that the connection to your group is maintained while the App is in the background and so Android does not terminate it.
5. What We Do Not Do
For the avoidance of doubt, the App does not do any of the following:
- We do not operate servers and do not receive your data
- We do not require registration, accounts, email addresses, or phone numbers
- We do not include advertising or advertising identifiers
- We do not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or tracking software of any kind
- We do not access your contacts, photos, files, call logs, or messages
- We do not collect your location
- We do not offer in-app purchases or subscriptions
- We do not sell, rent, or trade any information
6. Third-Party Services
The App uses one third-party component:
- Google Play Services (Nearby Connections API) — provided by Google as part of Android, and used to discover nearby devices and establish direct device-to-device connections. Message content is exchanged directly between devices. Google's handling of any data processed by Google Play Services is governed by its own policy. Google Privacy Policy
The App integrates no other third-party SDKs. It contains no advertising network, analytics provider, crash reporting service, social media SDK, or payment processor.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Because we do not receive your data, we hold nothing to retain or delete. All information described in this policy resides on your device and on the devices of participants you communicate with.
Message history is held in memory for the duration of a session and is not written to a persistent database. Voice recordings are stored in your device's temporary cache directory and are removed by Android when the cache is cleared. You may delete all locally stored App data at any time by clearing the App's storage in your device's settings, or by uninstalling the App, which removes your nickname, device identifier, saved room code, preferences, and any cached audio.
Please note that a message you have already transmitted to another participant exists on that participant's device and is outside of our control and yours.
8. Security
Because the App does not transmit your data over the internet or store it on any server, the categories of risk associated with server breaches and data interception in transit over public networks do not apply.
Connections between devices are encrypted in transit by the underlying transport protocols. Connections established through the Nearby Connections API are encrypted between the two paired devices, and Wi-Fi Direct links are encrypted at the link layer by the underlying Wi-Fi protocol. You should nevertheless be aware of the following limitations:
- The App relies on the encryption provided by these transport protocols and does not add a separate end-to-end encryption layer of its own on top of them.
- A room code identifies a room and controls who may join it; it is not a cryptographic secret. Any person within radio range who knows or guesses your group name and room code can join that room and receive messages sent to it.
You should not use the App to transmit sensitive personal, financial, medical, or confidential information. Treat communication through the App as you would treat an open radio channel.
9. User Conduct and Content
Content transmitted through the App is created by users and is sent directly between devices. Because the App operates offline and without servers, we do not receive, host, monitor, review, or moderate any content transmitted between users, and we have no technical ability to do so.
You are solely responsible for the content you transmit. You agree not to use the App to transmit unlawful, abusive, harassing, threatening, obscene, or otherwise objectionable content. Because rooms are joined by code and are limited to physical radio range, you should only share a room code with people you know and trust. If you encounter objectionable content or conduct, you should leave the room and cease sharing your room code with the participant involved.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and in fact we do not collect personal information from any user. The App permits communication between users, and we recommend that parents and guardians supervise any use of communication features by minors. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please note that such information resides only on the relevant devices and can be removed by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.
11. Your Rights
Data protection laws in certain jurisdictions, including the GDPR and the CCPA, grant rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection with respect to personal data held by a company. Because we do not collect, receive, or store any personal data, we hold no data about you that would be subject to such a request.
You retain complete and direct control over all information held by the App, and you may exercise the equivalent of a deletion right at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it. If you have questions about your rights, you may contact us at the address below.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability
The App and all information, content, and features are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MI Division disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MI Division shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) your use or inability to use the App; (b) any failure, delay, interruption, or loss of connection between devices; (c) any message that fails to send, fails to arrive, arrives incomplete, or is received by an unintended participant; (d) the conduct or content of any other user; or (e) any other matter relating to the App.
The App relies on short-range Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radio connections whose range and reliability vary with distance, obstacles, interference, battery level, and device hardware. The App is not a substitute for a licensed two-way radio, a cellular telephone, or any emergency communication system, and it must not be relied upon in emergency, life-safety, medical, or otherwise critical situations. Users are solely responsible for maintaining independent means of communication.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
