1. Introduction
MI Division ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Tactical Compass Offline DMS mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
a. Location Data
The App accesses your device's location services to provide core navigation, compass, and location-based functionality — displaying your coordinates in DD, DMS, DDM, UTM, and MGRS formats, reporting altitude, and computing magnetic declination from the offline World Magnetic Model so that true north and grid north headings can be shown. Location data is read from your device's own location providers, is processed locally on your device, and is held only in memory while the App is running. We do not store or transmit your precise location to our servers. Granting location access is optional: if you decline, the magnetic-north compass, calibration tools, and sensor telemetry continue to work.
b. Sensor Data
The App reads your device's motion and magnetic-field sensors (magnetometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope where available) to calculate heading, orientation, pitch and roll, magnetic-field strength, and calibration status. Sensor readings are processed in real time on your device and are neither stored nor transmitted.
What We Do Not Collect
The App does not create an account, does not request the internet permission, and contains no networking code. It collects no personal information, no device identifiers, and no analytics or usage data. Nothing you do in the App is transmitted off your device.
3. Third-Party Services
The App does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, mapping, or social SDKs. No third party receives data from the App.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the App's core functionality — heading calculation, sensor calibration, declination correction, and coordinate display
- Comply with legal obligations
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. Data may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:
- When required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of MI Division, our users, or the public
6. Data Security
All data processed by the App remains on your device. The App requests no internet permission and opens no network connections, so there is no transmission of your information to protect in transit. Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security controls, such as your screen lock and platform encryption.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
All data processed by the App is held on your device only, and most of it exists solely in memory while the App is running. We operate no servers and retain nothing. You can remove any locally stored App data at any time by clearing the App's data in your device settings or by uninstalling the App.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
Because the App holds no data outside your own device, these rights are satisfied in practice by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it, and by revoking the location permission in your device settings. To ask us anything about them, please contact us at the email address below.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability
The App and all information, content, and features are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MI Division disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MI Division shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) your use or inability to use the App; (b) any unauthorized access to or use of your data; (c) any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in the App's content or functionality, including but not limited to compass headings, magnetic declination values, magnetic-field strength readings, GPS coordinates, UTM and MGRS grid references, bearing-lock deviations, or altitude measurements; or (d) any other matter relating to the App.
The App is intended as a supplementary tool only and must not be relied upon as a primary source for navigation, positioning, or location-critical decisions. Compass accuracy depends on your device's magnetometer, its calibration, device orientation, and nearby magnetic interference. Users are solely responsible for verifying all information provided by the App through independent means.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
